Bill Maher participated in the following conversation:
While discussing the state of Nebraska, his guest, Sen. Ben Sasse (R-Neb.), told Maher, “We’d love to have you work in the fields with us.”
Apparently confused by the invitation, Maher joked “Work in the fields? Senator, I’m a house n****r!”
Remember Don Imus? He was fired for calling the Rutgers Women’s basketball team “nappy headed hos.”
Maher saying, he is a house ni**er is just as bad, if not worse. It is not a slip of the tongue, it is a racial slur. It is not a question of political correctness, Maher didn’t say negro instead of African American or Black instead of African American…
He said he was a house ni**er. He cannot hide behind his “I won’t do the politically correct thing” arguments of the past, he deserves the backlash and owes Black Americans an apology.
Nappy headed hos vs. I am a hous ni**er--
Which is worse? You decide.
What consequences should come with Maher’s statement? Once again, you decide.
Bill Maher issued the following apology:
Friday nights are always my worst night of sleep because I’m up reflecting on the things I should or shouldn’t have said on my live show. Last night was a particularly long night as I regret the word I used in the banter of a live moment. The word was offensive and I regret saying it and am very sorry.
To err is human, forgive devine.
