Biden’s Vice President pick may not impact whether he is elected. However, there are other reasons, despite the past history of VP’s not influencing elections, why Biden’s VP pick matters.
Biden has made it clear that he will be a transitional president. In other words, it appears that he is going to be a one term president. Therefore, his choice may be our next president, particularly if Biden does not finish his first term.
Vice Presidential picks generally do not matter, except in instances where they are well liked or polarizing. For Joe Biden, his pick may matter because of his age and, as we said, his belief that he is a transitional president.
Biden’s worst choice is Elizabeth Warren. First, she is too old.
Second, she does not fit the mold of the type of Vice President Biden needs if he does not finish he first term or if he does not run for a second term. Therefore, Biden needs to go younger and he needs to go with a minority. His choice has to be history making to energize the voting population.
Warren is also too liberal. She goes too far to the left leaving the fear that a leftist liberal may become Presidient because of the dynamics of a potential Biden Presidency.
Biden’s best choice is Kamala Harris. Despite the past friction between the two, she has solid name recognition, she is 55 (Biden needs a younger candidate on his ticket), she knows how to campaign, she will hold her own in a debate and she has the best “future presidential image” of any of his potential choices.
Finally, there is not only the woman issue, but there is the race issue. Donald Trump is a racist, pure and simple. Trump is a sexist, pure and simple. Choosing a younger black woman like Harris sends a clear message to women and minorities. Choosing Harris clearly establishes Biden as the candidate who recognizes the importance of both women and minorities in our nation—something Donald Trump does not, and cannot, do.
Biden has a chance to send a clear message through his Vice Presidential pick. By choosing a past opponent against whom he holds no grudges, a minority and a woman with solid qualifications, Biden sends that message.
