a blog exploring politics
Donald Trump wrote a long letter to Nancy Pelosi deriding Democrats for undertaking an impeachment inquiry. He condemns Democrats for their effort to undo the democratic process that put him into office. He gives a long argument as to why impeachment is a scam and a disservice to the American public. His letter is full of misrepresentations and incomplete factual scenarios. Moreover, the letter misinterprets the evidence and facts currently before the House of Representatives. It is a political hit piece designed to spread the propaganda Trump wants his base to hear.
The letter also shows Donald Trump acts like a guilty man, putting forth an encyclopedia of distortions designed to cover up his actions. He stokes anger and division knowing both will overshadow the facts showing his wrongdoing.
Donald Trump's letter is designed to appeal to the 40 to 45% of American voters who support his presidency. It adopts the GOP message being delivered on impeachment, a message which continues to solidify the Trump base.
Recent polling shows Americans are equally divided on impeachment and removal. There are 40 to 45% of Americans against impeachment. The evidence presented, the testimony given, and the facts leading to impeachment have not changed their minds. Donald Trump knows this and, hence, he has written this targeted letter to that 40-45%. He believes that base, just as it did in 2016, will stick with him giving him another electoral victory.
The language of the letter is designed to incite strong emotions among Trump believers. It is designed to incite them to action. Most important, the letter is designed not only to work up Trump supporters, but to box in Republicans to support Donald Trump regardless of the facts. Donald Trump knows Republicans are afraid they will lose their offices unless they can keep the Trump base in line.
There are many who are rightly criticizing Donald Trump, the contents of the letter, and the manner and method in which this letter is written. There are many who correctly point out that the letter is full of falsehoods demonstrating the extent to which Donald Trump will spread propaganda to keep office. This letter is an example of perfect propaganda designed to deliver a message to a targeted base regardless of the truth. The letter, in the Trump base’s eyes, is a perfect defense protecting Donald Trump from the removal.
Republican office holders are afraid of the Trump base. They cannot win without that base. Therefore, these office holders have created an argument against impeachment and removal to protect their political futures. Trump is keeping them in line.
Regardless of what you think of the Trump letter, it is doing what it is supposed to do. The letter is keeping GOP office holders in line because they know the letter will appeal to the Trump base. The letter is exciting the Trump base in an effort to solidify that base to vote in 2020. The letter is a political propaganda tool.
Dividing the nation is what Trump wants. He believes that if he stokes that division it means he will ultimately win a second term in office.
Moreover, the letter probably makes Trump feel good because he knows it is a propaganda piece designed to fool some of the people all of the time.
But then again the Trump Pelosi letter just may be written by a mad man who is unfit to serve in the office he holds.
“Politics is the art of looking for trouble, finding it everywhere, diagnosing it incorrectly and applying the wrong remedies.”
