"There is some irony in the fact that I am leaving while a man who has bragged on tape about his history of sexual assault sits in the Oval Office and a man who has repeatedly preyed on young girls campaigns for the Senate with the full support of his party..." Senator Al Franken
Al Franken may be doing the right thing, resigning amid allegations of inappropriate sexual conduct. He is stepping aside even though he disputes the allegations.
There is something drastically wrong here. If Franken (and Congressman Conyers) are stepping aside because of allegations of sexual misconduct, whether proven to be true or not, why aren't republicans doing the same thing?
The GOP should be putting pressure on their political leaders to resign in light of the numerous allegations against those leaders.
They should start with Donald Trump. Trump's history with women shows he is a sexual predator. The allegations are numerous and serious. Moreover, Trump feels free to boast about his sexual exploits demeaning women without any fear of the consequences for his actions. He is, therefore, free to say "I did try to fuck her. She was married" without any remorse, speaking of women as sexual chattel.
Then there is Roy Moore. He is a man who preyed on teenagers, he liked them young. When they come forward, he calls them liars, blaming the Clinton Obama machine for creating a political lie. What would happen if Al Franken or Congressman Conyers did the same thing? The Republican outrage would be "yuge."
Donald Trump should resign. Roy Moore should step aside. Democrats should be beating this drum reminding people why these two men are nothing but male chauvinist pigs.
Democrats demanded a lot from their own, they now need to demand the same from the opposition.
