In a politically bad, and unbelievable, move the Democrats just caved. By caving the Democrats just gave Donald Trump, and his GOP controlled Senate, a significant political victory.
Here are a couple of takes on the Democrat's spineless maneuver today in voting to open government back up, and why it looks bad for them.
In a stunning show of blind trust, Senate Democrats believed Mitch McConnell’s promise that they could work on an immigration overhaul in the coming weeks if they gave him the votes needed to end a government shutdown Monday.
Then there is this from The Washington Post on why Democrats lost this high stakes showdown:
Democrats: See basically everything under why Republicans won. Democrats calculated that their base and American voters would reward them for taking such a high-profile stand to protect dreamers, and that Republicans would be the ones to blink first, since Republicans control all levers of government right now.
Therefore, it is easy to ask:
Why did the Democrats do all of this "shutdown" business in the first place? It appears they are no further along than they were when they started, making all of this an exercise in political, and practical, futility.
