Evangelicals now have the street brawler they want, a person who will promote their conservative Christian values, a person who will make sure “Christianity Is Great Again.’
…for many evangelicals and conservative Catholics, “Make America Great Again” meant above all else returning to a time when the culture reflected and revolved around their Judeo-Christian values. When there was prayer in public schools. When marriage was limited to one man and one woman. When abortion was not prevalent and socially acceptable. When the government didn’t ask them to violate their consciences. And yes, when people said “Merry Christmas” instead of “Happy Holidays.”
This explains one of the more striking lines in Trump’s speech…to the Values Voter Summit, which in just 10 years has become one of the premier annual gatherings of social conservatives in Washington. Touting the “customs, beliefs and traditions that defined who we are as a nation and as a people,” the president recalled the Founders’ repeated reference to a “Creator” in the Declaration of Independence. “How times have changed,” Trump said. “But you know what? Now they’re changing back again. Just remember that.” Politico
Trump is appealing to a minority base by emotionally engaging them, leading to them taking action…working to complete a conservative Christian agenda designed to roll back progress enforcing the rights of minorities in this country. From gay marriage to equal treatment of the sexes, from fair immigration to civil rights, the Christian conservative movement wants to make our country a Christian only club. To accomplish their goals, they are using a continued misinterpretation of the founder’s intent creating the misplaced belief that we are a Christian only nation.
Never mind that the founders did not use the words Jesus or Christian in the Declaration of Independence, they used the word creator. Therefore, the narrow minded view that we are a Christian only nation, is based on an incorrect view of the founder’s intent. The truth is we are a country founded on religious freedom, not religious restriction.
The Christian conservatives are creating alternative facts that comports with their conservative religious views.
Under the religious right’s view, it appears we do have religious freedom in this country so long as it is Christian religious freedom. In order to promote their limited view of religious freedom, they are creating alternative facts to convince others their view is the correct one.
With their alternative facts in place, now they have a street brawler to help them make this country the way they view it-
A Christian only club.
Let’s Make Christianity Great Again is their motto as they engage in a propaganda campaign with Trump at the helm.
