Roy Moore is a Bible Thumper, plain and simple. He hides behind the Bible in defending his past predatory acts towards teenagers. He hides behind the Bible proclaiming he is a Christian man.
In the final weeks of his campaign, “Moore cast the allegations [regarding his preying on teenagers} in biblical terms, saying they demonstrated the end-of-time deceptions of ancient prophecy. ‘In the last days, perilous times shall come,’ Moore said, quoting from the book of Timothy. ‘For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, without natural affection . . . trucebreakers, false accusers.’” The Washington Post
Just what is Roy Moore, a biblical prophet, a messenger of God or a candidate for Senate? It looks like Moore views himself as a bible prophet, someone akin to Jesus Christ himself.
Moreover, Moore sounds like he wants America to be a theocracy, a Christian’s only club where those who view the Bible like he does are welcome and others, well…
“’I oppose transgender rights,’ Moore said. ‘I don't believe Christians hate anybody. I don't hate anybody. But I do hate sin.’” Is being gay or transgender a sin? Under Moore’s view, it appears based on the tone of his comments, you are not welcome in his Christian America if you are gay, transgender, or bi-sexual. He classifies you as a sinner and justifies his disdain by throwing the Bible up as a shield.
…then there is the hypocrisy of this whole message. On the one hand Moore is a man of God, above reproach. On the other he creates alternative facts (fiction) to avoid accusations that as a 30-year-old prosecutor he sought out relationships with teenagers, minors who legally cannot give consent.
If he is lying, and he apparently is, isn’t he a sinner just like transgenders? In his America he is not welcome to serve if he is a sinner.
“To calls of "amen" from the crowd, Moore said the allegations were a plot by his political enemies. A new television ad by his campaign that debuted Monday described the accusations as "a scheme by liberal Democrats and the Republican establishment to protect their big-government trough." The ad features pictures of McConnell, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and Senate Minority Leader Charles E. Schumer (D-N.Y.).” The Washington Post
Instead of dealing with the issue, Moore is trying to divert attention away from the issue using diversionary tactics, and the Bible, to fool Alabama voters. Based on some polling numbers his tactic is working. Based on the facts, Moore is lying, he is a sinner and he sins willingly to win.
Moore represents a dangerous time in American politics. Moore is a theocratic politician who is more than willing to force his religious views on others. He hides behind the Bible advocating a Christian only America, a theocracy, while ignoring the overwhelming facts that as a prosecutor he was a sexual predator of teenage women…an accusation he really does not deny but chooses to ignore while holding the Bible up as a shield. He justifies his lies about political plots against him and his refusal to acknowledge his predatory acts by using the Bible as a shield. He condemns transgenders as sinners while he sins by advancing lies and deceptions to win an election. He is a political, and religious, hypocrite.
Moore is a prime example of the misuse of the Bible as a political shield. If he wins in Alabama, America needs to wake up to the ugly reality that we are quickly turning toward the Bible and religion in America as a political, and propaganda, tool.
Unfortunately, this indicates a strong willingness to step away from being a democracy and stepping toward a theocracy.
The last thing we need in Washington DC is a Bible thumping politician who lacks a moral foundation. We do not need Bible thumping politicians telling us what the Bible means.
…especially one who has a history of liking little girls.
