Donald Trump is disputing what Sgt Johnson's widow is saying about his phone call. Trump just does not get it, he simply does not understand that this is about how Johnson's widow feels and not about his bruised ego.
President Donald Trump on Monday disputed a widow's account of a condolence call he made to her following the death of her husband in Niger earlier this month.
Trump tweeted shortly after Myeshia Johnson, the widow of Sgt. La David Johnson, discussed her disappointment with the call on "Good Morning America" Monday morning, saying the President stumbled on her husband's name and suggesting the only reason he knew it was because the report was right in front of him.
"I had a very respectful conversation with the widow of Sgt. La David Johnson, and spoke his name from beginning, without hesitation!" Trump tweeted. CNN
Instead of tweeting to dispute Myeshia Johnson's feelings, it would have been better for Trump to validate those feelings. Perhaps he should have tweeted:
"I have respect and compassion for those who lose loved ones in combat. Myeshia, your pain and sorrow must be great. Time to respect how you feel. My apologies."
Instead, once again, Trump uses those who disagree with him as a punching bag, including a Gold Star widow.
Trump lacks compassion and an ability to understand how others feel...this is a big character flaw in a man who wants to lead the free world.
